Christmas Drama

This is the first year we've had a child old enough to be crazy about Christmas. Samuel was definitely interested last year, but now he can sustain the wild anticipation for weeks at a time. Owen is generally oblivious, but Jude catches the wildness from time to time.

Anticipation is fun. Excitement is fun. I did not expect the intense mood swings. Every day has a few Rockwellesque moments, and several less picturesque episodes.

Act 1: Samuel counts the days until Christmas Eve. I ask why he is so excited for Christmas Eve (assuming he understands the bulk of the gift opening is on Christmas Day) and he says he can't wait to JUMP FOR JOY! Ben puts lights on the tree that night, and Samuel jumps all over the living room chanting "I'm jumping for joy!" His Sunday school teacher is doing a great job.

Act 2: Samuel brings home an ornament he made at school as a gift for his family. He refuses to share it with anyone. "It's MINE!"

Act 3: Samuel and Jude wake up while it is still dark (surprise!), and I turn on the tree lights. They jump and cheer for the lighted tree, and then sit pleasantly on the couch with me enjoying the glow.

Catch it when you can indeed.

Awwwwwww!!! Owen is adorabubble! (you know, I haven't seen him in forever) Doesn't Ben look cute with the boys.

BTW: Tell him I think "can guy" is crafty genius.
